Parliament Has Authority to Ratify Emergency, Governor’s Rule in KP: Azam Nazeer Tarar
KP chief minister had remained focused on politics: Tarar
ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has said that Parliament has the authority to ratify the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Speaking in the National Assembly, Tarar said that when a province faces worsening law and order and is engulfed in violence, political differences should be set aside and the state’s interests given priority.
He claimed that terrorism had increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past four months, adding that more than 3,700 terrorism incidents had been reported by October 2025.
The law minister said that despite the serious security situation, the province did not have a forensic laboratory. He also pointed out that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) lacked a complete structure.
Tarar alleged that the KP chief minister had remained focused on politics rather than addressing the province’s security challenges.
Explaining the constitutional procedure, the minister said that if provincial affairs were being handled outside the constitutional framework, the governor could approach the president.
He added that President Asif Ali Zardari, after satisfying himself on the matter, approved the prime minister’s advice regarding the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule in the province.
