Pakistan, US Sign Five-Year Fulbright Education Agreement

ISLAMABAD: (News Desk) – Pakistan and the United States have signed a new five-year agreement aimed at strengthening higher education and research cooperation, according to the Ministry of Education.

The new Fulbright Education Agreement will come into effect in 2026 and remain in force until 2031. Under the programme, 66 Pakistani students will receive scholarships to pursue PhD studies.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will contribute $4.54 million towards the initiative, while the total expenditure on the programme is expected to reach Rs6.48 billion over five years.

The scholarship programme will be awarded strictly on the basis of merit, with candidates selected without any quota-based allocation.

The agreement will also undergo an annual review, with the programme subject to regular scrutiny to assess its implementation and progress.

The initiative is expected to provide Pakistani scholars with opportunities to pursue advanced research and doctoral studies in the United States while further strengthening academic and research ties between the two countries.
