Pakistan, Thailand Discuss Parliamentary Cooperation and Women’s Empowerment

ISLAMABAD – Ambassador Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman Senate of Pakistan, met with His Excellency Mr. Rongvudhi Virabutr, Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan, today at the Thai Embassy in Islamabad. The discussions focused on enhancing inter-parliamentary dialogue and advancing women’s leadership roles globally.

Ambassador Khar introduced the newly established Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a forum aimed at fostering cooperation among legislatures worldwide. She announced that Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Mr. Yousuf Raza Gillani, was recently elected as the first President of the ISC, which currently includes 45 Speakers of national parliaments. She extended a formal invitation to the Thai Speaker of Parliament to attend the inaugural ISC session, themed “Peace, Security and Development,” scheduled for November 11–12, 2025, in Islamabad.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the role of women in leadership. Ambassador Khar emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to women’s empowerment and highlighted legislative efforts to ensure their meaningful participation in national development. She stressed the importance of using international platforms like the ISC to amplify the voices of women, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.

The Thai Ambassador expressed strong support for initiatives promoting women’s inclusion in leadership and the workforce. He welcomed the ISC as a positive step toward deeper bilateral and multilateral parliamentary engagement.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Thailand relations through continued dialogue and shared goals in gender equality and democratic cooperation.
