Pakistan Seizes 4.3 Tons of Opium Worth £22 Million with UK Cooperation

ISLAMABAD — Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering stance against terrorism, declaring that the country “stands as an iron wall” in the fight against extremism. His remarks came during a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy at the Ministry of Interior in Islamabad.

The two leaders held detailed discussions on bilateral relations, security cooperation, and developmental partnerships. Naqvi expressed Pakistan’s desire to strengthen ties with the United Kingdom and enhance mutual collaboration in key areas.

The Interior Minister praised the UK’s support for the “Upskill” program, highlighting its significant role in tackling organized crime. He noted that under the program, both countries are actively cooperating on issues such as illegal immigration, online child exploitation, mutual legal assistance, extradition, criminal record sharing, sex offender management, illicit funding, and anti-narcotics efforts.

Naqvi also revealed that, in collaboration with the UK’s National Crime Agency, Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had successfully seized 4.3 tons of opium, valued at approximately £22 million on the international market.

In response, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its support in facilitating the relocation of Afghan refugees and welcomed the progress and impact of the Upskill program.
