Mohsin Naqvi Secures Visa Relief for Pakistanis in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (Web Desk) – Federal Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi achieved a major diplomatic success during his official visit to Sri Lanka, as President Anura Kumara Dissanayake ordered the immediate removal of visa restrictions affecting Pakistani citizens.

The high-level meeting in Colombo focused on strengthening bilateral relations, with Naqvi raising concerns over the challenges faced by Pakistani nationals in obtaining Sri Lankan visas. He highlighted procedural delays and restrictive classifications that had created hurdles for travellers, business professionals, and families.

Responding promptly, President Dissanayake directed authorities to remove Pakistan from all restrictive lists, effectively resolving the longstanding visa complications. The Sri Lankan President also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s decision to play its T20 World Cup match against India in Colombo, describing the gesture as a reflection of goodwill and sportsmanship.

Naqvi thanked Sri Lanka’s leadership for the hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation and praised the organisational standards demonstrated during the international sporting event. Both sides also discussed enhanced cooperation in counterterrorism, counternarcotics operations, and joint security training programmes.

A formal invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was extended to President Dissanayake to visit Pakistan, which the Sri Lankan President welcomed, signalling continued high-level exchanges. President Dissanayake also indicated that Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister would soon undertake an official visit to Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Major General (Retd) Faheem ul Aziz, highlighting Islamabad’s commitment to deepening diplomatic and institutional cooperation with Colombo.
