Pakistan Stage Brilliant Comeback to Defeat Korea and Secure Test Series
Islamabad: (Mudassar Iqbal/ Sports Desk) – Pakistan secured the hockey Test series with a commanding third consecutive victory over South Korea, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium.
In the third Test of the Pakistan-Korea series, organised by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the national team produced an impressive comeback to defeat South Korea 4-3 after trailing at halftime.
Korea started strongly and dominated the opening half, with Kim Hyung-jin scoring in the 10th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead before the break.
Pakistan responded brilliantly in the second half with an attacking display. Hayat Zakaria equalised in the 32nd minute before Rana Waheed Ashraf found the net in the 45th minute. Abdul Rehman added another goal in the 55th minute, while Shahid Hanan sealed the victory with the winning strike in the 57th minute.
For South Korea, Yang Ji-hoon scored in the 33rd minute, while Kim Yong-bok added another goal in the 50th minute, but their efforts were not enough to stop Pakistan’s winning momentum.
Federal Ombudsman Naveed Kamran Baloch attended the match as the chief guest and praised both teams for an entertaining contest. At the closing ceremony, Pakistan Hockey Federation President Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani presented him with a commemorative shield.
PHF Development Committee Chairman Olympian Hassan Sardar, Selection Committee Chairman Olympian Samiullah Khan, and Pakistan Sports Board Director General Yawar Hussain also attended the event.
