LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by former Pakistan cricket team captain Muhammad Rizwan against the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), declaring it inadmissible for hearing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
LHC Chief Justice Justice Aalia Neelum observed that Rizwan’s counsel had failed to provide satisfactory answers to the court’s questions.
Addressing the lawyer, the chief justice questioned why the court should not impose a fine over the alleged concealment of facts.
She directed the counsel to appear before the NCCIA and respond to the show-cause notice issued to his client, telling him to present Rizwan’s position before the agency.
Justice Aalia Neelum also asked whether Rizwan had received the NCCIA notice.
“Yes, my client was summoned on September 10,” the lawyer replied.
The chief justice then asked whether the former skipper had appeared before the agency on the scheduled date.
“He did appear. But now we have been summoned again,” the counsel responded.
The court subsequently directed the lawyer to appear before the NCCIA and present Rizwan’s stance before the agency.
A week earlier, the NCCIA had questioned former Pakistan cricketers Muhammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq for around two hours in connection with alleged dressing-room leaks.
The two cricketers appeared before the agency at its Johar Town office in Lahore at 3pm and were questioned about their contacts and meetings during practice sessions and matches in England.
Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq subsequently sought additional time to submit their responses to the NCCIA.
Rizwan, 34, who hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was among seven players dropped from Pakistan’s squad on an emergency basis following the team’s defeat in the Lord’s Test.
After being left out of the squad, Rizwan travelled from London to Islamabad. He reportedly contacted the Pakistan Cricket Board before appearing before the NCCIA at its Lahore office.
Rizwan has represented Pakistan in 47 Tests, 103 ODIs and 106 T20Is.
