Pakistan Russia boost security cooperation at SCO meeting

Naqvi leads talks on regional security in Bishkek

Islamabad:( Web Desk) Pakistan and Russia have agreed to deepen cooperation across key security areas, including combating illegal immigration, counterterrorism, and drug trafficking, during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) interior ministers’ gathering in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held separate discussions with counterparts from Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, focusing on regional stability, law enforcement collaboration, and shared security concerns. With Russia, both sides signed multiple agreements to curb illegal migration and enhance the repatriation process of undocumented citizens, alongside strengthening joint efforts against narcotics smuggling.

Talks with Tajikistan highlighted concerns over militant camps and drug production in Afghanistan, described as serious threats to regional peace. Meetings with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan centered on expanding institutional cooperation, joint training programs, and establishing working groups to improve coordination between interior ministries.

Discussions with Kyrgyz officials emphasized broader security cooperation and appreciation for hosting the SCO forum. Overall, the engagements underscored a collective regional push to reinforce security coordination and tackle cross-border crime.
