Pakistan Receives Only Two Qatari LNG Cargoes in October
Qatari LNG Deliveries to Pakistan Drop Amid Lower Gas-Based Power Generation
The latest delivery follows the arrival of the first Qatari LNG cargo of the month at Port Qasim on October 13. Pakistan has therefore received only two LNG shipments from Qatar in October, compared with eight during the same month last year.
The decline in deliveries extends beyond October. Since March, Pakistan has received just 20 LNG cargoes, against 72 recorded over the corresponding period last year, according to the report.
Reduced LNG supplies have also coincided with a significant fall in gas-based electricity generation. Pakistan recorded a 56 per cent decline in electricity generation from LNG during September.
The drop in LNG arrivals and power generation highlights a substantial year-on-year reduction in the country’s use of imported liquefied natural gas. The figures also raise questions about the implications for Pakistan’s fuel supply and electricity generation, although the available information does not establish the precise causes of the decline.
