Pakistan Moves Closer to Nationwide 5G Launch
Pakistan Issues 5G Licences, Rollout Expected Around Eid Period
ٰISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Pakistan has taken a major step toward launching 5G services, as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority awarded licences to three leading telecom operators. The licences were distributed during a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s House, attended by Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, senior officials, and telecom executives.
With approvals now in place, companies can begin preparations for rolling out next-generation mobile connectivity. Officials indicated that limited 5G services could become available in parts of Islamabad as early as Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the initial phase of deployment.

The move represents a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation strategy, aimed at improving connectivity, enabling advanced technologies, and strengthening telecom infrastructure. Authorities confirmed that operators have already fulfilled key financial requirements, including submitting $15 million bank guarantees.
Under the licensing terms, each company must also install at least 1,000 new telecom sites and expand services to remote and underserved regions. The recently concluded spectrum auction saw 480 MHz sold out of 597 MHz, generating an estimated $510 million in revenue for the government.
