Pakistan Hockey Captain Urges PHF to Fulfil Promises Ahead of Asia Cup 2025
Despite the uncertainty, Butt expressed strong belief in the current squad’s capabilities.
Lahore – Pakistan hockey team captain Ammad Butt has urged the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to fulfil its financial and administrative commitments to restore player morale ahead of the crucial Asia Cup 2025.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Butt emphasized the significance of the upcoming tournament, stating that the national side’s preparations are progressing steadily. However, he warned that unresolved issues within the federation, particularly unpaid dues, continue to erode players’ confidence.
“The PHF must honour its promises. Unmet commitments affect our focus and morale,” Butt said, calling for immediate action to clear outstanding payments owed to players.
Commenting on Pakistan’s potential participation in the Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in India, Butt acknowledged that the PHF had consulted the federal government and stressed that the team would abide by the government’s final decision. He also raised concerns over the security situation, stating that travelling to India under current circumstances could pose risks to the team.
Responding to a recently leaked audio clip allegedly involving him, Butt said the matter highlighted deeper issues facing Pakistan hockey and should not be taken lightly. “This isn’t just about a recording—it’s about the structural challenges our sport is facing,” he remarked.
Despite the uncertainty, Butt expressed strong belief in the current squad’s capabilities. “Our bench strength is solid. We have what it takes to face any challenge on the field,” he said.

The captain also made a passionate appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate steps to revive the country’s sports sector. He called for increased support, funding, and employment opportunities for athletes, stressing that national pride in sports could only be restored with sustained government backing.
The Asia Cup 2025 is expected to serve as a qualifying event for future international tournaments, making Pakistan’s participation and performance critical for its long-term hockey revival.
