Japan set to host T20 World Cup qualifiers at cricket venue

Japan's New Cricket Stadium Takes Center Stage as T20 World Cup Qualifying Action Comes to Asia

T20 Japan – (Web Desk) – Japan is gearing up to welcome international cricket for the first time, as the country’s brand-new cricket stadium prepares to host men’s T20 matches next month, according to the International Cricket Council.

Known more for its love of baseball, Japan has surprisingly built a dedicated cricket stadium to welcome the Asian Games, which will be held in Nagoya and the surrounding Aichi region from September 19 to October 4.

The shiny new ground, located in the town of Nisshin just outside Nagoya, will be buzzing with excitement as it stages the East Asia-Pacific qualifiers for the 2028 men’s T20 World Cup from May 8 to 18.

This is set to be the biggest-ever East Asia-Pacific qualifying tournament, with nine competitive teams fighting hard for their shot at advancing toward the T20 World Cup, to be held across Australia and New Zealand.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for Japan to show our capacity to host pathway events for the EAP Region across multiple venues,” said JCA chief operations officer Alan Curr.

“We will be stretched like no time ever before, but are confident we can deliver an event that will showcase the best of the EAP region as well as create excitement for cricket at the Asian Games later this year.”

Hosts Japan will be joined at the tournament by the Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, South Korea, Samoa and Vanuatu.
