Pakistan China UNSC Meeting Pushes Resolution Reform

Pakistan China UNSC Meeting Calls for Full Implementation of UN Resolutions

UNSC – (Web Desk) – Pakistan and China jointly hosted an informal Pakistan China UNSC meeting on Tuesday, urging the United Nations Security Council to ensure full and non-selective implementation of its resolutions.

The meeting was briefed by UN Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari, UNSC Report Executive Director Shamala Kandiah, and Richard Gowan from the International Crisis Group.

All three speakers agreed that implementation is the backbone of the Council’s credibility. They stressed that UN resolutions need clear mandates, proper resources, political will, and strong follow-up to make a real difference on the ground.

Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, reminded member states that UNSC resolutions are legal obligations under the UN Charter.

He warned that ignoring or delaying these resolutions weakens the Council’s authority and increases human suffering. He specifically pointed to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine as long-standing unresolved situations.

The ambassador said the failure to implement UN resolutions on Kashmir has kept the dispute alive for decades, causing continued suffering for the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan also put forward practical proposals at the meeting. These included an annual review of unimplemented resolutions, clearer action plans, stronger follow-up mechanisms, and better coordination between peace operations and regional bodies.

Member states attending the meeting welcomed the initiative and called for UNSC decisions to be realistic, actionable, and backed by sustained diplomacy and regular reporting.

Pakistan and China reaffirmed their shared support for multilateralism and the authority of the UN Security Council through this joint initiative.
