Rivers at Risk of Flooding Across Provinces Due to Persistent Rain
Starting tomorrow evening, strong monsoon winds are expected to move into the southern regions, resulting in heavy rainfall, particularly in Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab.
Pakistan-The weather advisory forecasts intense downpours from tomorrow until August 18 in Balochistan and Sindh, affecting areas such as Sibbi, Harnai, Ziarat, Kohlu, Jhal Magsi, Kech, Panjgur, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Thatta, Badin, and Karachi.
The upper parts of the country, including central Punjab (Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Sialkot divisions) and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Hangu), are expected to experience heavy rain until August 20.
Heavy rains are also possible in parts of south Punjab from tomorrow through August 17.
The disaster management authority is on high alert due to the potential for urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

Punjab Monsoon Rain Update
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted continued monsoon rains across the province until August 18. According to the spokesperson, the next 24 hours are expected to bring rain, along with wind and thunder, to most areas. Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur are likely to experience rain, with monsoon showers also anticipated in Faisalabad, Sahiwal, and Gujrat divisions.
The PDMA Director General has issued an alert to provincial administration, emphasizing that all relevant departments should remain vigilant following the chief minister’s directives.
The DG has instructed to finalize preparatory measures due to concerns about potential urban flooding. The situation is being continuously monitored.
Flood Warning
The Disaster Management Authority has issued a flood warning due to ongoing rains, indicating that flooding is likely in rivers across various provinces.
Flash floods and urban flooding are expected in Karachi and other affected areas. Additionally, a flood alert has been issued for the Chenab River, where water levels are predicted to rise sharply over the next 24 hours, increasing the risk of severe flooding at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad, and nearby rivers.
The PDMA has advised local administrations in flood-prone areas such as Multan, Gujrat, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Muzaffargarh to stay on high alert. Emergency control rooms are active, and the situation is being continuously monitored.
Efforts are underway to implement public safety measures, including emergency evacuations, to reduce the impact of the anticipated flooding.
PDMA DG Irfan Kathia has directed provincial departments to remain vigilant and make necessary preparations to address the risk of urban flooding. He has urged the public to stay informed and cooperate with authorities in case of emergencies.
The PDMA is also responsible for providing real-time updates on weather conditions and any required precautions.
