Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Reaffirm Longstanding Ties, Eye Strategic Economic Partnership

Saudi Minister announces strategic investment plans, recognizing Pakistan's potential in natural resources.

On Thursday, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as the economy, agriculture, mining, and information technology.

During a meeting held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr between President Asif Ali Zardari and a visiting Saudi delegation led by the Saudi Minister of Investment, Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, both nations emphasized the importance of collaborating to foster a prosperous and peaceful future for the region and the wider Islamic world, according to a statement from the President’s Office.

Welcoming the delegation, President Zardari highlighted the deep, enduring ties between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). He expressed Pakistan’s interest in elevating bilateral relations to a long-term strategic and economic partnership, noting that such cooperation would further strengthen the bond between the two nations.

President Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s respect for King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with Saudi Arabia. He also praised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud’s visionary leadership.

Furthermore, President Zardari lauded the impressive progress Saudi Arabia is making under its Vision 2030 initiative and expressed his appreciation for the Kingdom’s continued support to Pakistan during difficult periods. He conveyed his satisfaction in witnessing Saudi Arabia’s growth and prosperity.

Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih acknowledged Pakistan’s strategic geographical importance and its potential in natural resources and renewable energy. He announced that Saudi Arabia plans to invest in Pakistan’s infrastructure and mining sectors, and that his delegation would be signing 25 agreements across various sectors to enhance economic cooperation.

He expressed optimism that these agreements would usher in a new chapter of economic collaboration between the two countries. Both parties also agreed to intensify cooperation in agriculture and information technology.

Several Pakistani officials attended the meeting, including Minister for Petroleum Musadik Masood Malik, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Privatization Abdul Aleem Khan, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister for Religious Affairs Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla. Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf Saeed Al Malki was also present.
