Pakistan Achieves Record Oil and Gas Output from OGDC Well

Pakistan Boosts Energy Output with Record OGDC Discovery

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has achieved a historic milestone with the launch of commercial production from its Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well in the Nashpa Block, marking the country’s highest-ever single-well oil and gas output. The development was formally inaugurated by Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik at OGDC headquarters in Islamabad.

The well, located in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is currently producing around 15,000 barrels of oil per day along with 45 million standard cubic feet of gas, with projections indicating further increases in output in the coming phase. Officials say the discovery was made across multiple geological formations, making it one of the most significant upstream achievements in Pakistan’s energy sector.

The project involved advanced drilling technologies and complex infrastructure development in a challenging terrain, including the rapid construction of an 8-kilometre pipeline and integration with existing facilities. OGDC stated that the well now contributes a substantial share of the country’s crude oil production, significantly reducing reliance on imports.

Economic estimates suggest the project could generate billions in monthly revenue while also saving foreign exchange by reducing the need for imported fuels. The development is being viewed as a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s energy security and improving domestic production capacity.

Government officials and OGDC leadership have described the achievement as a breakthrough for the country’s hydrocarbon sector, emphasizing continued exploration efforts and expanded collaboration to unlock further energy potential.
