Oxford University Inundated with Criticism of Imran Khan’s Chancellor Bid
Oxford University is currently facing significant backlash regarding the candidacy of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for the position of chancellor. The esteemed British newspaper, Daily Mail, has labeled the former Prime Minister as a ‘disgrace’ in a headline article.
According to the Daily Mail, Oxford University has been inundated with emails and petitions expressing strong disapproval of Khan’s candidacy. These communications describe Khan as an inappropriate choice for the chancellorship of such a prestigious institution.
Petitions argue that allowing someone with a history of corruption convictions to run for chancellor of Oxford University is unacceptable. Additionally, Khan’s extreme views, including his past support for the Taliban and Osama bin Laden—whom he has publicly referred to as a martyr—have further complicated his bid.

The petitions also criticize Khan for his controversial comments on women’s attire, where he suggested that women’s short dresses were a primary cause of harassment incidents. These statements have significantly tarnished his public image.
The Daily Mail reports that Khan’s supporters have been accused of harassing his critics and attempting to suppress opposition to his candidacy on social media.
The newspaper highlights that Oxford University has a long-standing tradition of upholding high ethical standards and respect for humanity. Allowing Khan to contest the chancellorship could damage this reputation.
Oxford University is expected to shortlist candidates for the chancellorship election in early October.
Punjab government spokesperson Azma Bokhari commented on the situation, stating that Western media now refers to Imran Khan as a “disgrace.” She criticized Khan for claiming to understand the West better than Pakistan and noted that stories of his alleged corruption have been prominent in global media for the past four years.
Bokhari also pointed out that the corruption index had doubled during Khan’s previous tenure. She alleged that Khan has hidden Tosha Khana clocks and £90 million to secure the chancellorship of Oxford.
Furthermore, Bokhari mentioned ongoing legal cases related to the failed coup attempt of May 9.
