One Killed, Five Injured in Shelling on South Waziristan House

Security Sources Report Civilian Casualties in Angoor Adda Shelling

South Waziristan: (Special Reporter) – One person was killed and five others were injured after a shell struck a house in a civilian area of Angoor Adda in South Waziristan, according to security sources.

The shelling hit a residential property, killing one civilian and injuring five members of the same family, the sources said. The incident raised concerns over the safety of residents amid cross-border hostilities.

Security sources said the Pakistan Army responded to the attack by destroying several Afghan forces’ checkposts during retaliatory action. They added that Pakistani troops remained on high alert along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and were prepared to respond to any further aggression.

The reported incident comes amid continuing Pakistani concerns over militant activity originating from Afghan territory.

On October 9, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said attacks launched from Afghanistan posed a serious security threat to Pakistan and neighbouring countries, warning that militant groups had gained greater room to operate.

At a press briefing, the Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan remained committed to political dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation but maintained that terrorism remained a fundamental security concern.

The spokesperson said Pakistan had shared information with the Afghan government about locations where militant groups were allegedly operating inside Afghanistan.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and other militant organisations had established safe havens in Kabul and other parts of Afghanistan, the spokesperson said.

Pakistan has also raised its concerns in regional diplomatic forums, including the Moscow Format. According to the spokesperson, an earlier joint statement reflected Islamabad’s concerns, but the Afghan Taliban did not agree to retain the same language during this year’s discussions.
