NYCFC Acquire Former MLS Defender Matt Miazga
Matt Miazga Joins NYCFC Ahead Of Crucial Season Run-In
NEW YORK: (Sports Desk) – New York City FC have acquired former MLS Defender of the Year Matt Miazga after claiming the veteran center-back off waivers from FC Cincinnati on Tuesday.
The New Jersey native will remain with NYCFC through the end of the 2026 season after Cincinnati waived him earlier this month.
Miazga, 31, was named MLS Defender of the Year in 2023 and was also selected to the MLS Best XI and All-Star teams that season.
NYCFC Sporting Director Todd Dunivant welcomed the defender, highlighting his experience, competitive approach and leadership as the club enters the final phase of the season.
Miazga has made 122 MLS appearances, including 114 starts, scoring three goals and providing eight assists during spells with the New York Red Bulls from 2013 to 2015 and Cincinnati from 2022 to 2026.
His teams have also won three MLS Supporters’ Shields, in 2013, 2015 and 2023.
NYCFC currently sit 10th in the Eastern Conference, one point behind Cincinnati and the Red Bulls in the race for the nine available postseason places.
Miazga said he was excited to join NYCFC and was ready to contribute during an important stretch as the club continues its push for the playoffs.
