Nurses at Mayo Hospital Face Action After Injection Mishap Causes Patient Fatalities

Punjab Health Minister Promises Action, Hospital Audit After Mayo Hospital Incident

LAHORE: The Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has taken action against three nurses from Mayo Hospital’s Chest Ward following a severe reaction to injections administered to patients. The nurses, Nazia Hassan, Sunaina Khalid, and Hafiza Saima Sahar, have been issued show-cause notices for alleged negligence in preparing the injection solution, which resulted in adverse reactions in 16 patients.

Reports suggest that the incident led to two fatalities and severe complications for 18 patients, including high fever and breathing difficulties. The reaction occurred after hospital staff reportedly mixed the powdered injection with the wrong solution. The case has raised concerns about the hospital’s medication handling procedures.

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has promised that the investigation report will be made public soon and strict actions will be taken against those responsible. An audit of all government hospitals will be conducted to prevent such incidents in the future.
