Sinpo: (Web Desk) – North Korea carried out another round of missile launches on Sunday, firing multiple short-range ballistic missiles, according to South Korea’s military, in what marks a continuation of heightened weapons activity by the nuclear-armed state.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the missiles were launched from the Sinpo area toward the Sea of Japan early in the morning. The projectiles reportedly traveled around 140 kilometers, while South Korean and US intelligence agencies continue to analyze their technical details.
Officials in Seoul stated that the country remains in close coordination with the United States, maintaining a strong joint defense posture. Authorities warned that any further provocation would be met with a firm response. The South Korean presidential office also convened an emergency security meeting following the launches.
Analysts believe the tests reflect Pyongyang’s continued resistance to diplomatic outreach efforts from Seoul. Tensions have remained high despite recent gestures, including expressions of regret from South Korea over earlier incidents involving drones.
North Korea, led by Kim Jong Un, has repeatedly defied international restrictions, including sanctions imposed by the United Nations banning its ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs.
North Korea Conducts Three-Day Weapons Testing Drill
Earlier this month, Kim Jong Un oversaw cruise missile launches from a naval destroyer, signaling an expansion of the country’s maritime capabilities. Reports indicate that North Korea is working to strengthen its naval fleet, including building additional 5,000-ton class destroyers.
South Korean officials and analysts have also pointed to growing military cooperation between Pyongyang and Russia, particularly in the context of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, raising further concerns about regional and global security dynamics.
