“National Accountability Bureau Targets Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in Latest Reference”

"NAB Files New Toshakhana Reference Against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Amid Ongoing Judicial Scrutiny"

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a new reference in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife, Bushra Bibi, as reported by ARY News on Tuesday.

The reference was presented to an accountability court in Islamabad by Investigating Officer Mohsin Haroon and Case Officer Waqar Hassan.

The new NAB reference alleges that the couple acquired a jewelry set from the Toshakhana, which is valued at Rs75 million, and subsequently sold it.

This development follows the Islamabad High Court’s decision on Monday to remand Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife, Bushra Bibi, into judicial custody. The couple is being investigated for the alleged misuse of gifts received from foreign dignitaries during their tenure in office.

On July 13, they were acquitted in the Iddat case, but their relief was short-lived as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) subsequently arrested them in connection with a new Toshakhana reference.

The arrest occurred on July 13, shortly after their acquittal in the Iddat case. The NAB team, led by Deputy Director Mohsin Haroon, took Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi into custody at Adiala Jail, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The latest development follows the Islamabad District and Sessions Court’s acceptance of appeals filed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, challenging their conviction in the Iddat case.

Earlier this year, in February, the couple was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each after a trial court deemed their marriage (nikah) fraudulent.

With this verdict, the last major legal obstacle keeping Imran Khan imprisoned has been removed. His sentences in the two Toshakhana cases were previously suspended, and he was acquitted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the cipher case.
