Nahid Rana reprimanded after Code of Conduct breach

ICC reprimands Nahid Rana over aggressive send-off incident

DHAKA: (Web Desk) – Bangladesh speedster Nahid Rana has been officially reprimanded by the ICC for violating Level 1 of the Code of Conduct during the opening ODI against Australia in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The ICC found Rana guilty of breaching Article 2.5, which covers the use of language, actions, or gestures that could insult or provoke a batter after dismissal in an international match.

As part of the punishment, one demerit point has been added to the pacer’s disciplinary record. Since it was his second offence within a 24-month period, his total demerit points now stand at two.

The incident took place during the 11th over of Australia’s innings when Rana dismissed Josh Inglis. Following the wicket, the Bangladesh bowler ran aggressively toward the departing batter and used inappropriate language that had the potential to trigger a hostile reaction.

Rana accepted responsibility for the offence and agreed to the sanction proposed by ICC Match Referee Prakash Bhatt, eliminating the need for a formal disciplinary hearing.

The charge was brought forward by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Gazi Sohel, alongside third umpire Ahsan Raza and fourth umpire Morshed Ali Khan.

Under ICC regulations, Level 1 offences can result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
