Murree projects approved to boost tourism infrastructure
Nawaz, Maryam approve major Murree tourism and infrastructure projects
MURREE: (Web Desk) – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif have reviewed ongoing and upcoming development schemes in Murree, approving a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening tourism and infrastructure in the region.
During a high-level meeting, the leadership gave the green light for the construction of Punjab’s first Sky Glass Bridge in the Kotli Sattian area to attract tourists and enhance the area’s appeal.
The meeting also emphasized the need to address environmental risks, with plans to bring in international experts to mitigate landslides and manage mudflow threats in vulnerable hilly areas. Authorities were directed to immediately begin relief and rehabilitation work in affected localities, including Chatta Mor, Darya Gali, Bansara Gali, Namal and Jhika Gali.
Officials approved the development of three new hospitality zones in Shawala, Suzo and Brewery, where five-star hotels will be established through public-private partnerships. A dedicated team of experts will supervise the Murree rehabilitation project, while encroachments will be removed and debris cleared from impacted sites.

Infrastructure upgrades were also discussed, including widening key roads such as Murree Reach Bull Road to improve accessibility. The meeting set a one-month deadline to begin work on the Murree Glass Train project and reviewed progress on the broader conservation and rehabilitation plan, including proposals for three new public parks.
Authorities presented updates on multiple tourism and recreational projects, including parks in Kotli Sattian, eco-tourism facilities, a zoological garden, and a modern conference center in Bansara Gali. Wildlife conservation initiatives such as Bear House, Tiger House, and Bird Aviary were also part of the plan.
Additionally, a glamping pod village in Chiwarahal has been completed and will be handed over to the private sector, alongside approval for a paragliding club project in the same area. Other developments under review included a chairlift project, Punjab House, and forest rest houses.
The meeting also directed officials to finalize a feasibility report for a bulk water supply scheme from the River Jhelum by April 30. It was noted that rainwater harvesting systems have already been installed in 1,876 homes across Murree and Kotli Sattian, easing water access challenges for local residents.
A new Facility Management Unit has also been approved to oversee construction, maintenance, and administrative matters of government properties across Punjab, with a detailed plan to be submitted soon.
