Meta Launches New Robotics Division Focused on Humanoid AI Robots

Marc Whitten Appointed Vice President of Robotics at Meta to Lead Humanoid Robot Development

ISLAMABAD: Meta Platforms has unveiled the formation of a new division within its Reality Labs unit aimed at developing AI-powered humanoid robots to assist with various physical tasks. This strategic move highlights the company’s growing emphasis on robotics and artificial intelligence.

In an internal memo, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Bosworth, revealed that the newly established robotics product group will focus on researching and developing “consumer humanoid robots” that leverage the capabilities of Llama, Meta’s foundational AI platform. Llama powers a wide array of generative AI products across the company’s social media networks, further elevating its role in Meta’s technological advancements.

The new division will be led by Marc Whitten, former CEO of the self-driving car company Cruise, who has been appointed as Meta’s Vice President of Robotics. Whitten’s leadership will guide the company in maximizing the potential of humanoid robots and integrating them into consumer-facing applications.
