Maulana Fazlur Rehman Praises Political Unity in Passing Constitutional Amendment

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman praised all political parties, including the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for their collective efforts in successfully passing important constitutional amendments.

Speaking during a key National Assembly session early Monday, Rehman noted that discussions had emerged regarding the aspirations of Supreme Court judges for extended terms. He brought this issue to the legislative floor, advocating for a constitutional amendment designed to foster cooperation between the legislature and the judiciary.

He emphasized the importance of the Charter of Democracy, a document he signed to encourage a unified political consensus, which called for the establishment of a constitutional court. However, he lamented the rise of divisive forums that contradict its principles.

“The Constitution will endure, even in the face of changing political circumstances,” Fazl asserted, highlighting the lasting commitments outlined in the Constitution between the nation and its provinces. He described the Constitution as sacred and pointed out that amendments become increasingly difficult as its significance is upheld.

Additionally, he condemned the mistreatment of any political leader, expressing regret for not denouncing such actions sooner.
