Massive Ukrainian Drone Attack Hits Moscow Region Overnight
Over 500 Ukrainian Drones Target Russia In Massive Overnight Assault
MOSCOW: (Web Desk) – Russia came under one of the largest drone assaults of the ongoing conflict after more than 500 Ukrainian drones targeted multiple Russian regions overnight, leaving at least three people dead in the Moscow region, officials said on Sunday.
According to the Russian defence ministry, air defence systems intercepted 556 drones across 14 regions, including areas surrounding Moscow, as well as the Black Sea, Azov Sea and the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said a woman was killed after a drone struck a private residence, while two other men also lost their lives during the large-scale assault. Rescue teams continued operations after reports that another individual remained trapped beneath rubble.
Authorities said the attack began around 3am, with air defence systems working continuously to repel waves of drones targeting the capital region. At least four people were reportedly injured, while several infrastructure facilities sustained damage.
Within Moscow itself, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that more than 80 drones were intercepted overnight. Falling debris caused limited structural damage in several locations across the city.

One strike reportedly injured construction workers near an oil and gas refinery. Officials stated that refinery operations were not disrupted, although three residential buildings were damaged during the incident.
The drone barrage followed recent comments by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who vowed to intensify retaliatory strikes after a deadly Russian attack on Kyiv killed 24 people earlier this week.
Diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict remain stalled, with Kyiv rejecting Moscow’s territorial demands in eastern Ukraine. Analysts say peace negotiations have slowed further as international attention shifted toward the ongoing US-Iran and Middle East tensions.
Following the expiration of a temporary three-day truce earlier this week, both Russia and Ukraine have resumed heavy aerial attacks, with each side accusing the other of violating ceasefire commitments.
Ukraine has repeatedly defended strikes on Russian military and energy infrastructure, arguing that such operations are necessary to weaken Moscow’s war capabilities and financial resources supporting the conflict.
Western allies of Kyiv have also accused Russia of undermining diplomatic initiatives intended to bring an end to the prolonged war.
