Massive crackdown on smuggling and gas pilferers

167 connections disconnected 9.423 million fine imposed and 348 under billing cases,

Islamabad/Lahore_The government, in collaboration with security forces and military leadership, has initiated an operation against smuggling across the nation.

This unprecedented anti-smuggling campaign, which commenced in September, has recently unveiled startling statistics, revealing the magnitude of the problem.

From October 22 to October 29, a staggering, 1,406 metric tons of sugar and 0.177 million litres of oil were apprehended in various parts of Pakistan.

A notable portion of this contraband was seized in the province of Punjab, with 30.39 metric tons of sugar and 53.52 metric tons of flour recovered.

Furthermore, this operation also led to the confiscation of small quantities of smuggled goods, including 0.016 million litres of oil from Punjab, 0.003 million litres from Sindh, 0.030 million litres from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and 0.016 million litres of Iranian oil from Balochistan.

Since the operations commencement on September 1, a substantial amount of illicit goods has been intercepted.

These include 1,673 metric tons of fertilizer, 198 metric tons of flour, 0.177 million litres of Iranian oil, and 2,032 metric tons of sugar from various parts of the country,

During the ongoing crackdown against gas pilferers, SNGPL continued raids in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad, disconnecting another 167 connections while imposing fine of Rs 9.423 million and 348 under billing cases processed

In Lahore, the regional team disconnected 14 connections on illegal use of gas and another 4 on use of compressor,60 Under billing cases have been processed and amount of Rs 0.773 booked against gas thieves and under billing cases. In Bahawalpur the company disconnected 4 connections on the use of compressor .In Multan the company disconnected 4 connections on illegal use of gas while another four on the use of compressor ,30 Under billing cases have been processed and fine of Rs 0.130 Million imposed against gas pilferers.
In Peshawar and Karak,the company disconnected 35 connections on account of direct use of gas and illegal and 12 Under billing cases have been processed. The regional team also imposed fine of Rs 1.21 against gas thieves. In Rawalpindi the regional team disconnected 60 gas connection on illegal use and 102 Under billing cases processed and the team imposed fine of Rs 3.50 against gas pilferers. In Mardan 30 under billing cases processed while imposing fine of Rs 0.05 million. The regional team in Islamabad disconnected 7 connections on illegal use of gas.

In Sialkot, the team imposed fine of Rs 0.76 million against gas theft and Under billing cases. The team in Gujranwala 33 under billing cases have been processed and 1 connection was disconnected on illegal use of gas while another 1 on the use of compressor and amount of Rs 0.17 against gas pilferers.

In Sahiwal, one connection was disconnected on illegal use of gas and 1 on compressor use. In Faisalabad 8 under billing cases processed and 3 connections were disconnected on illegal use of gas. Fine of Rs. 0.05 million was also imposed against gas pilferers.
In Sheikhupura disconnected 23 connections on illegal use of gas and two on compressor use while 43 under billing cases processed and fine of Rs 2.78 million against gas theft and Under billing cases.
The team in Gujrat 2 connection was disconnected on illegal use of gas. The regional team of Sargodha disconnected 1 connection on illegal use of gas.
