Major Wajahat Waheed Martyred in Gwadar IED Blast, Four Terrorists Killed in Kalat

Security forces say four militants were killed in Kalat, while clearance operations continue in Gwadar’s Shadi Kaur area.

Balochistan – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – Major Wajahat Waheed martyred in a bomb attack in Gwadar, Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday. The officer died while his team was carrying out an operation against militants.

The ISPR said security forces ran a series of operations on Sunday. They took place in the Shadi Kaur area of Gwadar and in Jattakabad, a part of Kalat district. Both operations began after reports that militants were present in these areas.

Operation in Jattakabad, Kalat

The first action took place in Jattakabad. Security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation and targeted a militant hideout.

Four militants were killed in the operation. The military’s media wing said a large amount of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the spot.

The ISPR described the four men as India-sponsored terrorists. This is the army’s claim, and no independent confirmation was given in the statement.

Clearance Operation in Shadi Kaur, Gwadar

The second operation was in Shadi Kaur. Security forces went there to clear the area of other militants.

During this clearance operation, a security forces contingent was hit by an improvised explosive device, also known as an IED. The blast took the life of Major Wajahat Waheed.

He was 37 years old and belonged to Lahore. The ISPR did not share more details about his family or service record in its statement.

The ISPR said clearance operations in the area will go on. They will continue until the remaining militants are finished off.

Forces often keep searching such areas for days. They check hideouts, roads and nearby routes to make sure no more threats are left.

Rising Militant Violence in Pakistan

This news comes at a time of growing violence in the country. Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in cross-border attacks, mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.

Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) shows how serious the situation is. The Islamabad-based think tank recorded 225 militant attacks across Pakistan in September 2026.

That is the highest monthly figure in 12 years. In August, the number was 199, so attacks rose by 13 percent. Attacks have now gone up for three months in a row.

Tension With Kabul

Islamabad has often asked Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan land to attack Pakistan. It says the Afghan Taliban government has not taken strong action against groups that target Pakistani soldiers and civilians.

The two sides have held several rounds of talks. Even so, they have not solved their differences. The issue of militants operating from Afghan soil remains the main point of dispute.

The death of Major Wajahat Waheed is another reminder of the risks faced by soldiers in Balochistan. More details are expected as the clearance operation moves ahead.
