Major Shake-up at Adiala Jail as Inquiry Uncovers Prisoner Murder
Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail has witnessed a significant shake-up, with several high-ranking officials dismissed from their posts following a prison inquiry into a murder incident. Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, Assistant Superintendent Riaz Khan, and two wardens were found guilty of murder and subsequently relieved of their duties .
The inquiry, ordered by IG Prisons Punjab, revealed that seven employees, including Akram, were involved in the murder of a prisoner in the psychiatric ward on February 29. Four employees were recommended for dismissal, and show-cause notices were issued on August 30 .
Following the inquiry report, Home Secretary Punjab Noorul Amin Mengal issued notifications dismissing Akram, Riaz Khan, Warder Nasir Mehmood, and Warder Amir Abbas from their positions. Additionally, Night Duty Officer Assistant Superintendent Mahmoodul Hasan received a two-year sentence, and Head Warder Wajid Mahmood was sentenced to one year It’s worth noting that Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram was previously removed from his post on June 20 and replaced by Deputy Superintendent Judicial Tahir Siddique Shah as security supervisor of PTI founder Imran Khan
