Major Polio Vaccination Drive Set to Begin, Targeting Over 30 Million Kids

Sindh Districts Start Vaccination Efforts as Pakistan Reports New Cases

Nationwide Anti-Polio Campaign to Begin Monday, Targeting Over 30 Million Children

A major anti-polio vaccination drive is set to launch on Monday, with the goal of immunizing more than 30 million children under the age of five, according to Radio Pakistan.

To prepare for this campaign, various district administrations in Sindh have already started week-long vaccination efforts, aiming to cover approximately 9.4 million children across 30 districts in the province.

This year, Pakistan has reported 17 cases of polio, three of which have come from Sindh. The situation is further complicated by the detection of positive environmental samples in the province, suggesting that the virus is still circulating.

Pakistan, along with Afghanistan, remains one of the last two countries where polio is still endemic. Despite global efforts to eradicate the virus, challenges such as security issues, vaccine hesitancy, and misinformation continue to impede progress.
