“Long Live Democracy, Long Live Parliament,” Declares Chief Minister

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has praised the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, describing it as a historic milestone for democracy and the authority of Parliament.

In her statement following the amendment’s approval, Maryam Nawaz underscored its importance in restoring Parliament’s power and reinforcing the judicial system.

“Long live democracy, long live Parliament,” she declared, congratulating the nation on this achievement. She emphasized that the 26th amendment sends a “clear message for the people to raise their voices” and represents a significant reform aimed at ensuring that justice is not only delivered but also perceived to be served promptly.

This amendment is vital for Parliament’s supremacy and signifies a broader effort to position Pakistan as an “exemplary democracy” on the world stage.

She commended the introduction of reforms that would usher in a new era for the judicial system, stating, “With this amendment, justice will be delivered efficiently.”

Maryam Nawaz noted that public access to justice has been secured and the independence of the judiciary has been strengthened, while also welcoming the removal of the interest clause.
