Life Disrupted in Upper Areas as Heavy Snowfall Blocks Roads

MUREE: (Web Desk) – Life in the upper parts of the country has been severely disrupted due to heavy snowfall, with several feet of snow accumulating in many areas and blocking key connecting roads.

Heavy snowfall was reported in upper areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Sudhnoti, Bagh, Hattian Bala, Athmuqam, Upper Neelum and surrounding regions. In Haveli district, around 25 vehicles, including ambulances, were stranded due to intense snowfall.

The Pakistan Army successfully rescued 32 passengers, while nearly 100 people were reported to be on board the stranded vehicles. After many years, snowfall was also recorded in Muzaffarabad, while in Murree, a 20-year snowfall record was broken. In Neelum Valley, three houses collapsed due to heavy snowfall.

Major highways were blocked due to snowfall and landslides, and rescue operations are underway to restore road access. Relief operations are also ongoing in Tirah Valley following heavy snowfall.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, more than 1,100 affected individuals have been safely rescued, and over 120 vehicles stuck in snow have been recovered. Emergency vehicles and heavy machinery are being used in ongoing relief efforts.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, intermittent snowfall continues. In Kaghan Valley, authorities have closed entry for tourists after roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast further rain and snowfall in the upper regions of the country starting from tomorrow, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
