Karsaz Drug Case: Court Acquits Accused Driver, Cites Weak Evidence

Karachi – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – A Karachi court has closed the Karsaz drug case, bringing relief to the woman accused in the deadly 2024 road accident. The judge said the prosecution could not present enough proof to support the drug charges against her.

The verdict came from a judicial magistrate in District East on Friday. The court noted that the case lacked solid evidence and could not stand on its own.

Her defence lawyer told the court that neither the chemical test nor the blood test showed any trace of methamphetamine, the drug also known as crystal meth or ice. He also claimed the samples taken by police may have been tampered with.

The lawyer went further, alleging that the investigating officer had hidden the actual blood test report during the probe. This, he argued, weakened the police case from the very start.

The Karsaz drug case is linked to a tragic accident that took place on August 19, 2024. A speeding luxury vehicle crashed into several other cars near the Pakistan Maritime Museum in Karachi.

The crash claimed two lives, 26-year-old Aamna Arif and her 60-year-old father, Imran Arif. A few other people were also hurt and rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

The driver herself suffered a head injury in the crash and had to undergo a CT scan at the same hospital. Doctors collected her blood and urine samples as part of standard medical checks.

Nearly two weeks later, on August 31, 2024, police claimed her blood and urine tested positive for methamphetamine. A separate case was then filed against her for using a banned substance.

This drug case is different from the murder case tied to the same accident. In October 2024, a sessions court had already acquitted her in that case after the victims’ family agreed to a reconciliation.

Before that, the heirs of the deceased had pardoned her and told the court they had no objection to her bail. They maintained that the accident was not intentional.
