Excitement Builds as ICC Champions Trophy Opens in Karachi

KARACHI: The revamped Karachi stadium has officially been handed over to the International Cricket Council (ICC) ahead of the highly-anticipated Champions Trophy, set to kick off on February 19. The tournament will commence with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match.
In preparation for the event, the stadium’s facilities have been upgraded to meet ICC’s branding and broadcasting requirements. Among the enhancements, the baggy cam, spider cam, and hawkeye system will be installed at the venue, ensuring high-quality coverage of the matches.
ICC officials, match referees, and anti-corruption and anti-doping units will be stationed in the stadium’s new building, where cameras have also been set up for match officials and organizers.
With the Champions Trophy title in their sights, Pakistan, the defending champions from 2017, are ready to showcase their skills on home turf. However, due to security concerns, the Indian cricket team has opted out of playing in Pakistan and will play their matches at the UAE under a hybrid model arrangement.
