Karachi exam paper leak sparks major controversy
Massive exam leaks expose weaknesses in Sindh education system
KARACHI: (Web Desk) – Serious questions have been raised over the credibility of the matriculation examination system in Karachi after reports emerged that the Class 10 chemistry paper was leaked on social media approximately 30 minutes before the exam began.
According to a report by a private news channel, the question paper circulated rapidly online, undermining earlier claims by the Board of Secondary Education Karachi that strict anti-leak measures had been implemented.
Despite assurances of coordination with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and cybercrime units, the incident has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of preventive mechanisms.
This is not an isolated case. Just three days earlier, on April 20, the Class 11 chemistry paper and Class 9 English paper were also reportedly leaked shortly before examinations in Karachi and Larkana. Investigations into those incidents are ongoing, and authorities have confirmed multiple arrests linked to paper leaks.
Reports also suggest that organised groups have been using messaging platforms, including WhatsApp, to circulate answers during examinations, further deepening concerns about systemic malpractice.
Despite a network of 521 examination centres across Karachi and more than 385,000 students appearing in the matric exams, repeated leaks have raised questions over administrative control and exam security.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Larkana, has also faced criticism for its handling of similar incidents.
Karachi Matric Exams Marred by Paper Leak Allegations
In a separate development, reports indicate that the first-year physics paper in Larkana was also leaked minutes before the exam on Thursday, adding to growing concerns over examination transparency across Sindh.
Education stakeholders and parents are now calling for stronger oversight, digital safeguards, and accountability to restore trust in the examination system.
