JI Announces Nationwide Sit-Ins from August 16 Over Petrol Price Hike

The party had initially planned to hold the sit-ins on August 9

Islamabad: (Staff Reporter) – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced nationwide sit-ins from August 16 against the petroleum levy and rising petrol prices.

The decision was taken during a special meeting chaired by JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, with senior party leaders as well as provincial and major-city leaders participating through video link.

The party had initially planned to hold the sit-ins on August 9, but decided to postpone them to allow the country to celebrate Independence Day on August 14.

According to the new schedule, the protests will begin simultaneously across all four provinces on August 16.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said a major sit-in would be held outside the Punjab Chief Minister’s House in Lahore, while demonstrations would take place outside the governor houses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan.

The JI has been opposing the increase in petrol prices and petroleum levy, demanding relief for consumers and measures to control the rising cost of living.
