Jensen Huang Dismisses AI Extinction Warnings for 2030

NEW YORK: (News Desk) – Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has rejected claims that artificial intelligence (AI) could bring about the end of humanity within the next few years, describing such predictions as irresponsible.

Speaking in an interview, Huang, co-founder and chief executive of the US technology giant Nvidia, dismissed comments by former Anthropic researcher Jacob Kosen, who has warned on social media that AI could wipe out humanity within a decade.

Huang said 2030 would not be “the year of the end of the world,” arguing that there is “a 0% chance” that the world will end that year. He said there was no need to frighten people with such predictions.

Kosen, in a post on X, warned that companies are competing to develop self-improving superintelligent systems while potentially putting humanity at risk.

“Don’t underestimate the power of this technology,” Kosen said, warning that advanced AI could evolve into powerful systems capable of hacking systems, transforming industries rapidly and accumulating greater power and resources.

He further claimed that AI developers are working on systems based on the belief that such technology could eventually become capable of killing humanity by the end of the decade.

Concerns over AI safety have also drawn criticism from US lawmakers. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has previously called for an immediate slowdown in AI development, warning that rogue AI agents could potentially hijack the internet within six to 12 months and cause losses running into trillions of dollars.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Tesla and SpaceX chief Elon Musk have also voiced concerns about the rapid pace of AI development and called for greater caution.

US President Donald Trump, however, has dismissed such warnings about AI progress, describing them as a conspiracy and rumours.

Huang stressed that predictions about AI causing the extinction of humanity have not been scientifically established. He also said Nvidia’s long-term success depends directly on developing and deploying its products and services safely.

“If we do not do this, the value of our company will decrease,” Huang said.
