Washington: (Web Desk)- US Vice President JD Vance has stated that recent negotiations with Iran have shown encouraging progress, but emphasized that the next move now depends on Tehran.
Responding to questions about the second round of talks, Vance expressed hope that Iran would take constructive steps, particularly regarding stability in the Strait of Hormuz. He reiterated Washington’s position that Iran must not pursue nuclear weapons.
Vance said US officials have clearly communicated their demands, including the removal of nuclear material from Iranian territory. He stressed that the United States has defined its “red lines” and expects compliance.
Addressing maritime tensions, he described the Strait of Hormuz as a critical route for global energy supplies and urged Iran to ensure its continued openness. He accused Iran of engaging in “economic terrorism” by threatening vital sea lanes and disrupting international trade.
Speaking on the broader response, Vance said the United States is applying increased economic pressure while maintaining that Donald Trump supports the long-term prosperity of the Iranian people.
He warned that if Iran takes steps to restrict maritime movement, Washington could respond with similar measures, including limiting the movement of Iranian vessels.
Despite noting progress in negotiations, Vance concluded that the outcome ultimately depends on Iran’s willingness to move forward and reach a comprehensive agreement.
It is worth noting that recent rounds of US-Iran talks held in Islamabad ended without a final agreement.
