Jakarta Train Collision Death Toll Rises to 14 — Women’s Carriage Hit Hardest in Bekasi Crash

Jakarta Train Collision Death Toll Leaves Families in Grief as Rescue Teams Work Around the Clock

Jakarta – (Web Desk) – The Jakarta train collision death toll has risen to 14, with 84 more people injured after two trains crashed in Bekasi, just outside the capital, late Monday night. Rescue teams are still working to free survivors trapped inside the wreckage.

The crash happened when a commuter train hit a taxi stuck on the tracks and was then struck by a long-distance train. A women-only carriage took the worst of the impact. PT KAI chief Bobby Rasyidi confirmed the rising toll as evacuation work continued.

Rescue workers used angle grinders to cut through train metal to reach people still pinned inside. Head of the search and rescue agency Mohammad Syafii said the process was careful and slow to protect those still alive.

President Prabowo Subianto visited a nearby hospital and promised to build a flyover to ease traffic near the tracks. He also admitted that large parts of Indonesia’s rail network are poorly maintained. The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) is now investigating.

Green SM Indonesia, an electric taxi company linked to Vietnam’s Vingroup, confirmed the taxi involved belonged to their fleet.

One passenger, Heriyati, narrowly escaped serious harm after choosing a different carriage at the last moment. She was mid-call with her husband when the crash happened.
