Jaishankar’s Landmark Visit to Pakistan for SCO Summit

Historic moment as Indian External Affairs Minister arrives in Islamabad

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has arrived in Islamabad, marking a significant moment in India-Pakistan relations. His visit has drawn attention as it may provide an indirect opportunity for dialogue between the two neighbors, despite the current diplomatic tensions.

This visit is the first by an Indian external affairs minister to Pakistan in nearly a decade, the last being by the late Sushma Swaraj. Jaishankar was welcomed at the Nur Khan airbase by Ilyas Mehmood Nizami, Director General of the Foreign Office for South Asia and SAARC.

Shortly after landing, Jaishankar posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming his arrival in Islamabad for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan also arrived in Islamabad to attend the SCO summit. His delegation was received by Federal Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik at PAF Base Nur Khan.

**SCO Summit Agenda**

Islamabad is preparing to host the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government at the Jinnah Convention Centre on October 16. The two-day summit will see high-level delegations from SCO member states discussing key regional and global issues.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will host a dinner for the visiting dignitaries and formally welcome them at the convention center. The event will begin with a reception, group photos, and the official opening by Prime Minister Sharif, followed by speeches from the heads of the delegations.

The summit’s agenda includes the signing of important agreements, with the event concluding with closing remarks from Prime Minister Sharif. A luncheon will also be held in honor of the participants. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the SCO Secretary-General will address the media at the end, highlighting key outcomes from the conference.
