Iran Offers US Ceasefire Plan Via Pakistan

Tehran Pushes Ceasefire First Strategy In US Talks

TEHRAN: (Web Desk) – Iran has reportedly put forward a new diplomatic proposal to the United States through Pakistan, aiming to de-escalate tensions, end ongoing hostilities, and restore access to the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by Axios on Monday.

The proposal suggests delaying discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme until a later phase, marking a notable shift in Tehran’s diplomatic strategy. Instead of prioritizing nuclear negotiations, Iran is focusing first on achieving a ceasefire and reopening the key maritime route, which has been severely disrupted.

Sources cited in the report indicate that Pakistan has played a central mediating role, facilitating communication between Tehran and Washington in an effort to break the current deadlock in negotiations. The prolonged impasse has heightened concerns over global energy supplies, given the Strait’s importance for international oil shipments.

Under the proposed framework, immediate steps would include halting hostilities and ensuring safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Only after these objectives are secured would both sides move toward addressing the more complex issue of Iran’s nuclear programme — a sequencing that differs significantly from longstanding Western positions.

The development comes amid continued diplomatic strain and unsuccessful rounds of talks, including discussions held in Islamabad. The ongoing disruption in the Strait has also raised alarm globally due to its potential economic fallout.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has indicated that the situation could be approaching a decisive moment, suggesting that sustained military and economic pressure may be influencing Iran’s stance. He also alluded to internal divisions within Iran as a possible factor shaping future developments.

Separately, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described his recent visit to Pakistan as constructive, highlighting “productive consultations” on the conditions necessary for resuming negotiations with the US. He also held discussions in Oman focusing on maritime security and the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the need for coordination between regional stakeholders.

According to Iranian state media, both Iran and Oman have reached a strong level of agreement on maintaining security and ensuring safe navigation through the Strait. Officials from both countries have agreed to continue technical-level consultations to safeguard shared interests and regional stability.
