Imran Khan Arrested Again: New Case Filed After Toshakhana Bail

Rawalpindi-(Mudassar Iqbal)-The latest twist in Imran Khan’s ongoing legal struggles. Khan was previously convicted and sentenced to three years in prison in the Toshakhana case but was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court.

According to details, the arrest took place at the Adiala jail, where Khan is currently detained. The police executed the arrest following a formal registration of charges against Imran Khan at the New Town police station.

He faced multiple charges under Sections 7 ATA, 21-I ATA, and various provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, including sections 353, 186, 285, 286, 148, 149, 427, 109, and 188.

These charges related to his alleged involvement in the violent protest organised by the PTI.

Khan, who is already incarcerated in a separate case, will be presented in court tomorrow for a physical remand hearing.

The court will decide whether he will remain in custody for further investigation.

This arrest came just hours after the Islamabad High Court granted Imran Khan bail in the Toshakhana case earlier this morning, adding further tension to his legal battles.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb granted bail to Imran Khan. Defence lawyer Salman Safdar said that the statement read out was recorded by the NAB investigation officer, adding that now the matter had gone to the FIA.

The FIA prosecutor said statements under Section 164 are recorded before a magistrate. Justice Aurangzeb said that after the law changed, the case went from the NAB to FIA. “What action was taken against the three Customs officers who calculated the wrong price?” asked the court.

The FIA prosecutor said Customs officers committed negligence, but it did not constitute criminal misconduct. “The NAB did not recommend any departmental action against those officers,” he added.

“Let’s just say that they are very good people,” Justice Aurangzeb remarked, eliciting laughter in the courtroom.

The court directed Imran Khan to submit bonds of Rs1 million each and also appear in trial court after being released on bail. “If the accused does not cooperate with the court during trial, the bail order may be withdrawn,” the court declared.

Tosha Khana 2,

The reference filed by the NAB was related to a jewellery set gifted to Bushra by the Saudi royal family when her husband Imran was the prime minister of the country from 2018 to 2022.

The anti-graft watchdog further alleged that during his term as prime minister, Imran and his wife had received a total of 108 gifts from different heads of state and foreign dignitaries.

The anti-graft watchdog alleged that the former first lady received the jewellery set — comprising a ring, bracelet, necklace a pair of earrings — on her visit to Saudi Arabia in May 2021. It said the PTI founder and his wife illegally kept the jewellery set.

The reference states that the deputy military secretary briefed the Toshakhana section officer to estimate and declare the price of the jewellery set, which it mentioned, was not deposited in Toshakhana.

The jewellery company sold the necklace for €300,000 and earrings for €80,000 on May 25, 2018. The information regarding the price of the bracelet and ring could not be obtained from the company.

On May 28, 2021, the price of the jewellery set was estimated at Rs70.56 million; the price of the necklace was Rs50.64 million and the price of the earrings included in the jewellery valued at Rs10.50 million back then.

According to the rules, the 50% price of the jewellery set is approximately Rs35.28 million. The national exchequer suffered a loss of approximately Rs35.28 million after the jewellery was undervalued.
