IHC Orders Jail Authorities Not to Keep Imran Khan, Bushra in Solitary

ISLAMABAD: (Court Reporter) -The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed Adiala Jail authorities to ensure that PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are not kept in solitary confinement.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro disposed of petitions challenging the alleged solitary confinement of the two, issuing a series of directions to the jail administration.

Aleema Khan had filed a petition concerning Imran Khan, while Mubashara Khawar Maneka approached the court regarding Bushra Bibi’s alleged solitary confinement.

The court instructed Adiala Jail authorities to facilitate a meeting between Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. It also directed the jail superintendent to ensure that neither of them is subjected to solitary confinement.

According to the ruling, Imran Khan’s family should be allowed to meet him in accordance with prison regulations. The authorities were also directed to facilitate telephone contact between him and his sons.

The court further ordered that newspapers and books be provided to Imran Khan on a daily basis. It said the facility could be withdrawn if any recorded audio of the PTI founder is misused.

The ruling also directed jail authorities to provide Imran Khan with medical care in line with applicable prison rules.

While disposing of the petitions, the IHC referred to the principles laid down in the Nusrat Bhutto and Begum Shamim Afridi cases. The court directed the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to implement its orders and submit a compliance report within 15 days.
