Huawei, GB government discuss youth IT training plans
Islamabad (Web Desk) — Provincial Minister for Information, Broadcasting and IT Ghulam Abbas visited the office of Huawei Technologies Pakistan, where he held a detailed meeting with the company’s senior delegation to discuss expanding digital infrastructure and ICT development in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The discussions focused on strengthening information and communication technology in the region, along with creating employment and training opportunities for youth. During the meeting, officials highlighted a nationwide internship initiative for around 4,500 students, with a dedicated quota for Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure local youth gain access to modern IT skills, practical experience, and fair stipends.
Both sides stressed the importance of promoting digital literacy among young people. The Huawei delegation offered full cooperation in enhancing professional skills through its ICT Certification Program and sought support from the provincial government to effectively implement the Prime Minister’s ICT Training Initiative in the region.

Key sectors including tourism, healthcare, and minerals were also discussed for digital transformation. Officials noted that adopting modern technologies in these areas would improve transparency, efficiency, and overall service delivery while contributing to economic growth.
It was agreed that the IT Department of Gilgit-Baltistan and Huawei Pakistan will jointly develop a comprehensive action plan covering youth selection, training, and internship execution on merit.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the ICT ecosystem in Gilgit-Baltistan, expanding digital access, and equipping youth with globally competitive skills.
