Gwadar International Airport to be functional from THIS date: Details inside
The Federal Minister said that the name of Islamabad International Airport was formally announced by the Cabinet Division after a consultation exercise.

QUETTA: It was revealed on Monday that the long-awaited Gwadar International Airport is expected to become operational this year.
As per the details, in this regard, Aviation Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif told the members of the Assembly that the project of New Gwadar International Airport has been completed to a large extent, and it is expected to be operational by December after formal handover and trials.
Responding to questions from members of the lower house of parliament, the minister said that the new general aviation aerodrome near Meredke has been substantially completed and will be operational by next month.
The minister added that it was expected that general aviation organizations and flying schools would be shifted to the new aerodrome within three to four months.
In response to another question, Khawaja Muhammad Asif gave details about the name of Islamabad International Airport.
The Minister revealed that Liaquat Ali Khan International Airport, Fatima Jinnah International Airport, Abdul Sattar Edhi International Airport, Dr. AQ Khan International Airport, Dr. Abdul Salam International Airport, Sardar Abdul Rab Nishtar International Airport, Baba Balleh Shah International Airport, Data Ganj Bakhsh. Names of Chaudhary Rehmat Ali International Airport were considered for International Airport, Muhammad Ali Johar International Airport and Islamabad Airport.

Khawaja Asif explained in detail that in 2017, few names were presented to the Prime Minister regarding Islamabad Airport, after which the Prime Minister shortlisted two names namely IIAP and Gandhara International Airport to be placed before the Federal Cabinet.
The Minister said that the Federal Cabinet has finally approved Islamabad International Airport as the name of the newly constructed airport.
To another question, the Minister said that the Hyderabad airport has not been closed and is maintaining operational status with all necessary manpower and facilities.

The minister, however, highlighted that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended its flight operations from Hyderabad Airport since 2013 due to commercial inefficiencies.
He added that some airports were closed due to financial non-viability and lack of required passenger load.
