Islamabad: Govt ups the ante in cybercrime fight with NCIA. In an effort to combat rising menace of cybercrimes, the federal government has established the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCIA), replacing the FIA Cybercrime Wing.

This new entity will take over the responsibilities of the FIA Cybercrime Wing, with a broader mandate to prevent and investigate cybercrimes.

A notification has been issued, formalising the establishment of NCIA, which will operate under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication. The agency will be responsible for investigating and prosecuting cybercrimes, including hacking, online fraud, and digital terrorism.

To ensure a seamless transition, officers and employees of the FIA Cybercrime Wing, along with ongoing cases, have been transferred to NCIA. The government has also framed rules for the agency’s functioning, empowering it to take effective action against cybercriminals.
