Govt to Address Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Defeats: Rana Sanaullah

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s political and public affairs advisor, Rana Sanaullah, has announced that the government will take notice of Pakistan’s humiliating defeats in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and their early exit from the tournament.

Speaking in a conversation with a private TV channel, Rana Sanaullah, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would personally address the performance of the national cricket team. The matter will be raised in both the cabinet and parliament to address the cricket-related issues.

Rana Sanaullah emphasized that although the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) operates as an independent body, he would urge the Prime Minister to raise the concerns in the government’s decision-making forums. He also clarified that the issue at hand was not just the appointment of a PCB chairman but a deeper concern about the board’s operations.

On the topic of PCB officials’ salaries, Rana Sanaullah revealed that high-ranking officials were being paid up to Rs 5 million per month. He expressed concern over the fact that many officials seemed unaware of their responsibilities, yet continue to receive large salaries without fulfilling their duties.

Furthermore, he expressed astonishment at the perks and privileges enjoyed by PCB officials, comparing them to those of officials in developed countries, raising questions about their commitment to serving a Pakistani institution. He also noted that the longstanding issues within the PCB, which have led to the board’s deteriorating state, stem from individuals taking charge and using their positions for personal gains.
