Gilgit-Baltistan Water Department Achieves Record Rs2.231 Billion Electricity Revenue Collection

GILGIT: (Staff Reporter) – The Gilgit-Baltistan Water & Power Department has recorded its highest electricity revenue collection in more than two decades, collecting Rs2.231 billion during the 2025–26 financial year against an annual target of Rs3 billion.

According to the department, the milestone reflects a significant improvement in revenue recovery and financial management. Officials credited the achievement to the collective efforts of the department’s officers, engineers, field staff and revenue teams.

The department said the progress was made under the leadership of Secretary Water & Power Safdar Khan, whose focus on strengthening financial discipline and improving revenue collection mechanisms played a key role in boosting recoveries.

Officials also acknowledged the support of Secretary Finance Gilgit-Baltistan Najeeb Alam, whose cooperation helped facilitate the recovery of long-pending electricity dues from various government departments.

The Water & Power Department said the collection of Rs2.231 billion marks substantial progress toward its annual target of Rs3 billion and reflects the government’s commitment to improving the financial sustainability of the power sector in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The department congratulated its staff for their dedication and reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing revenue collection, reducing outstanding arrears, improving public services and building a reliable and financially sustainable electricity sector across the region.
