Bannu hand grenade attack kills policeman, injures other

PESHAWAR/Bannu– The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Peshawar region and security force on Saturday gunned down four terrorists in an intelligence-based operation carried out in Sarband area of Khyber district.

As per the details garnered, security forces conducted an operation in Sarband area of Khyber district. On seeing the forces, the terrorists opened indiscriminate firing on the security forces. The gun battle between the forces and terrorists continued for a long time.

Search and clearance operation in the area was carried out after firing stopped and the bodies of four terrorists were recovered, while some accomplices of the terrorists escaped by taking advantage of the darkness.

The dead terrorists were wanted by the CTD in several cases. Weapons and ammunitions were also recovered from the possession of terrorists. The dead terrorists belonged to a banned outfit.

In yet another incident, a policeman was killed and other injured after militants threw a hand-grenade at a police van.

Bannu Division Police spokesperson Wajid Khan said when the police were carrying out a raid within the area of Township, militants came on motorcycle, threw the grenade, and fled. The details of the raid were not shared.

It prompted additional police contingents to reach the place of incidence and launch a “search operation” to hunt the attackers.
